DESCRIÇÃO DO PROJETO / PROJECT DISCRIPTION
"O objectivo do projecto foi reconstruir e ampliar um edifício numa das ruas mais emblemáticas da cidade do Porto, a Rua Miguel Bombarda, onde se situam várias galerias de arte.
O edifício existente, já com alguns sinais de degradação, não tinha grande relevância. O lote, de grande profundidade, permitiu a extensão da construção e o desenho de um jardim com um edifício anexo autónomo.
O projecto aproveitou muito pouco da estrutura existente, excepto a parede da fachada principal e os respectivos vãos, cuja métrica se conservou. A bela varanda de granito também foi mantida, caracterizando o alçado, conjuntamente com o tijolo maciço que foi colocado no piso térreo.
Um largo corredor lateral dá acesso à entrada do prédio, à escada e elevador e ainda deixa antever a passagem para o jardim no interior do quarteirão, desnivelado em relação à rua. Os acessos verticais são iluminados através de um lanternim.
No interior do lote, com vista para os jardins destes enormes quarteirões, desenhou-se a fachada posterior com revestimento em tijolo maciço na sua base, trataram-se as empenas das construções adjacentes e desenhou-se o edifício anexo. No revestimento deste foi também utilizado o tijolo maciço, colocado na horizontal e vertical.
Oito das dez habitações existentes no edifício são de tipologia T1. Nos primeiro e último pisos, soluções de casas duplex de tipologia T2 resolvem a base e o topo do edifício. O betão é o material predominante em todas as áreas comuns e interior das habitações."

"The aim of the project was to rebuild and expand a residential building on one of the most emblematic streets in Porto, Rua Miguel Bombarda, where several art galleries are located.
The existing building, already showing some signs of degradation, was of little relevance. The depth of the lot allowed the design of a garden and also of another autonomous building.
The project made very little use of the existing structure, except for the main facade wall and the respective spans, the metrics of which were preserved. The beautiful granite balcony has also been maintained and, together with the solid brick that was placed on the ground floor, represent the main features of the facade.
A wide side corridor gives access to the building's entrance, the stairway and the lift and it still allows foreseeing the passage to the garden inside the block, uneven in relation to the street. The vertical accesses are illuminated through a skylight.
Inside the lot, overlooking the neighbours’ gardens, the back facade was designed with a solid brick cladding at its base. The other autonomous construction was also designed with solid brick cladding placed horizontally and vertically.
Eight of the ten houses in the building are of one bedroom type. On the first and last floors, duplex houses of two bedroom type were designed to solve the base and the top of the building. Inside each home, concrete is the predominant material as well as in all common areas."
