Nuno Alves de Carvalho (Porto, 1978) is an architect and the founder of

URBAstudios architecture + art, a Porto-based practice he has led as principal architect since 2007. Working across architecture, art and urban culture, the studio combines a rigorous conceptual approach with the specific context, needs and ambitions of each project.

The work of URBAstudios is shaped by questions of space, context and ways of living. These concerns take form through architectural projects, temporary installations and collaborations with artists, designers and fellow architects. This dialogue with other disciplines allows the studio to approach architecture not simply as building, but as a practice capable of creating relationships between space, culture and experience.

Nuno holds a postgraduate degree in Curatorship, Urban Culture and Spatial Practices from ESAP. This background informs a critical engagement with the city and contemporary culture throughout his work. In 2015, he co-founded Openfield CreativeLab, a creative laboratory dedicated to interactive installations and public art projects at the intersection of art and technology.

His work has been featured in Domus (IT), Interior Design (NY), Architectural Digest among other publications. Two of his projects were also included in Gestalten's Small Homes Grand Living.
