Casa do Sobreiro II
photography by Ivo Tavares
Cat in the Cork Oak House, a project by Skemba – Architecture and Engineering, 2024
The purity of architectural minimalism comes to life with an unexpected presence. In a setting dominated by immaculate white and sharp vanishing lines, a cat rests serenely, bringing soul, scale, and routine to this geometric composition.
About this photograph
This image captures the intimate and serene side of Casa do Sobreiro. Taken in 2024 within Casa do Sobreiro — a project designed by the Skemba – Arquitectura e Engenharia studio —, this photograph serves as proof that minimalist architecture can also embody the essence of a true home. Observe the rhythmic texture of the painted brick wall, which creates a tactile yet incredibly clean backdrop. The sharp, dynamic perspective of a handrail-like element at the top of the stairs immediately guides your gaze through the image, while the wooden flooring introduces an organic tone that warms the space, balancing the coolness of the whites. And naturally, at the vanishing point of this geometric composition, we discover the true protagonist of the moment: the resident cat comfortably at rest. With its gaze fixed on the lens, this feline presence subtly disrupts the static perfection of the environment, introducing a note of serenity and ease. This is the perfect instant where architecture transcends being merely a structure and becomes a lived experience, making this print ideal for bringing tranquility and light to any wall.
