Casa Beira Mar II
photography by Ivo Tavares
Seaside House, a project by Paulo Martins, 2020.
A visual poem written in light and shadow. In this minimalist and abstract black and white composition, the geometric rigidity of the architecture serves as an immaculate canvas for the organic ballet of natural silhouettes, creating a piece of profound elegance and serenity.
About this photograph
Abstraction transforms a simple built detail into an authentic graphic work. Captured in 2020 at Casa Beira Mar — a project by architect Paulo Martins — this black and white photograph reduces the space to its purest essence, eliminating the distraction of color to focus the gaze solely on form, light, and texture.
Observe the power of the diagonal line that traverses the composition. This sleek and precise architectural element cuts across the subtle texture of the illuminated wall, creating a sense of depth and relentless geometry. It is the static perfection of the straight line conceived by the human hand, which sets the stage for what follows.
In stark contrast, nature asserts itself ephemerally. The dense and whimsical shadows of the surrounding vegetation cast upon the immaculate surfaces, drawing organic and dynamic contours that break the starkness of the architectural line. This silent dialogue between the solidity of the wall and the fragility of the foliage results in an incredibly poetic and versatile piece, perfect for those seeking timeless sophistication and a touch of abstract minimalism.
