Orizzont I

photography by Ivo Tavares

Late afternoon at the Orizzont building, a project by Ricardo Vieira de Melo, architects, 2021
A captivating interplay of volumes and reflections bathed in the warm late afternoon light. The wooden and glass boxes project from the facade of this building, transforming into dynamic mirrors that bring the clouds and the golden sky into the very architecture.

About this photograph

The facade ceases to be a static boundary, transforming instead into a living canvas that mirrors the surrounding landscape. Captured in 2021 at the Orizzont building — a remarkable work designed by Ricardo Vieira de Melo Architects —, this image explores three-dimensionality and texture in contemporary residential design. The eye is immediately captivated by the suspended volumes projecting from the main structure. Clad laterally in wood, these 'boxes' create a strong visual rhythm and introduce an organic texture that beautifully contrasts with the clean precision of the glass. The low, golden light of dusk accentuates the building's geometry, sculpting deep shadows that lend an almost tactile dimension to the entire composition. But the true visual spectacle lies in the behavior of the large glazed openings. Functioning as authentic mirrors, the windows capture the softness of the clouds and the warm hues of the sunset, blurring the boundaries between built form and nature. It is a vibrant and luminous architectural piece, ideal for spaces that call for color, depth, and the serenity of the 'golden hour'.
